My dog managed to squirm between the old 4 ft fence and the new welded wire from dog proofer until we used hog rings to attach old to new wire. You need the tool to attach the rings. Tool occasionally jamming up with retained rings not a deal breaker. Used a screw driver to pop out jammed rings and kept going but wasted a bunch of rings.
